Top dogs finish victorious

As the finals of some of the top volleyball conferences came about, there were four teams that came to mind. UNI, Wichita State, Penn State, and Michigan. The top seeds of the Missouri Valley Conference and the Big 10 Conference. UNI pulled out a win by overpowering the Wichita State Shockers 3-1. It was an easy win for Penn State who took home the title by beating Michigan 3-0. Although two great teams were beaten, their season isn't over. Michigan and Wichita State are guaranteed a buy into the NCAA D1 playoffs along with 62 other teams. The playoffs with start within the next two weeks.

Redbirds stopped short of the MVC tourney

Coming into this past weekend with the mindset of being hungry and looking for a victory the Illinois Sate Redbirds were matched up against the 2nd and 3rd ranked teams in the Missouri Valley conference, Wichita State and Missouri State. This weekend could make or break their season. They only needed to win one match and they would be bumped up to 6th and move on to the MVC tournament. Unfortunately the Redbirds were stopped short and their season came to an end. With Melissa Meyers on the bench coaching the storming Redbirds team, she plans to make a statement and slowly move her way to the top of the conference board within the next few seasons!

A Day To Remeber Forever

November 11th was a day that could never come soon enough for 3 Moline seniors. Thomas Lindauer, Sarah Fetter, and Miranda Geever all attended the early fall signing to play sports in college. Lindauer going to Illinois for baseball, Fetter going to Illinois State for volleyball, and Geever going to Olivet Nazarene for basketball. After finalizing the deal, nothing but excitement filled Wharton Field House as family and friends came to support these outstanding athletes. Although glory rang for the 3 Moliners on the 11th, signing dates aren't over yet. A numerous amount of local athletes will continue to sign letters of commitment through out the week. After years of hard work...dreams do come true.

It all comes to an end

Having a great season, the Moline volleyball play has finally come to an end. Falling to Quincy in the regional finals at Wharton on Saturday, with a final record of 31-4. Of course for the three seniors Sarah Fetter, Emily Kauzlarich, and Ashley DeVolder, it was a heartbreaking way to end their last season as a Maroon. Their advice to fellow teammates would be to take the lose as motivation for next year and leave everything out on the floor. It's all over before you know it. Even with a lose the Maroons still ended their season with 4 players on the 1st All-Conference team, Sarah Fetter, Emily Kauzlarich, Lauren Arnold, and Marquisha Harris along with Sam Fournier and Ashley DeVolder with honorable mention. Coach Albrecht closed the season off on a great inspirational note saying, "When you set goals, whether you reach them or not, it's the process along the way and how you got there that you will remember."

Still undefeated

It is over half way through the season and no one has been able to stop the Moline "Mighty" Maroons volleyball team. Keeping it perfect with a 23-0 record, the maroons won their home invitational this past weekend at Wharton Fieldhouse. Taking down Geneseo, Morton, Freeport, and Dunlap. Winning a championship plaque wasn't enough for three of the players on this team. Juniors Lauren Arnold and Marquisha Harris earned all tournament team along with senior Sarah Fetter claiming the tournament MVP title. Losing the first game in the final match Moline was challenged to push to three games for a 26-24, 15-13 victory over Dunlap in the last two games. With only 3 weeks left before postseason starts, these girls are committed to take on anyone in their way to success. They're also preparing for a big week with games against Normal Community then Quincy on senior night. Along with travleing to Bradley Bourbonnais for a high level tournament that weekend. With the great support they have behind them from family, friends, and the Goon Squad accomplishing these goals shouldn't be a problem.

Wish these girls luck as they continue their outstanding season!
